Do You Know Jean Michel Laurent?
Just bought this oil painting for a song! The artist, Jean Michel Laurent is a known French painter of seascapes, who was born in 1898 and died in 1988. His works have been sold through some important auction houses, but otherwise I don't know much about him.
I hope to find out the name of this painting and any other details about Laurent that are out there. I believe this may be a painting from a series he seems to have done about fishermen on the French or Dutch coast.
Any suggestions about where to look? The Web hasn't turned up much yet. Thanks for any input.

I too have been searching for info on Jean Laurent. Just bought a maritime painting with his name as the artist. The painting is of a three-masted Dutch East Indiaman with a couple other ships in the background. I suspected up front I was buying a reproduction since the price was only in the high hundreds. If you heard anything, please advise.
Nothing more yet. The auction houses seem to have had pricing all over the place, ranging from the high hundreds to upwards of $4,000+ from the bigger houses. His still lifes seem to do very well, too. A reproduction...perhaps, but seems very good. not sure I want to know. At least the wood guilded frame is worthwhile. Enjoying it.
I sold one to a collector who stated Jean Laurent is a Pseudonym
Apparently an alcoholic prolific painter who lived in Tunbridge Wells & died in the 1980's the collector mentioned the artist's name Brian or Paul something or another can't recall last name
